Winifred M. Stevens

Winifred M. (O’Neil) Stevens, 94 of Mystic, wife of the late David R. Stevens passed away Sunday, March 3rd at L&M Hospital surrounded by her family. Winifred married David Stevens on April 10, 1948 but sadly he passed away on February 10, 2008 after almost 60 years of marriage. Born in Boston, MA she was the daughter of the Late John and Mary (Lynch) O’Neil and lived in Mystic since 1960. Winifred worked at Stone & Webster in Boston, MA & Cooper Labs in Mystic. Winifred was also a secretary with Davis-Standard retiring in 1984 after many years of dedicated service. Winifred was a 50 year member and held several officers positions of the Daughters of Isabella and was a faithful communicant of St. Mary Church in Groton. Winifred was an accomplished and skilled seamstress, and also devoted countless hours volunteering with the Red Cross Bloodmobile, and her church. Winifred leaves to cherish her memory three children, John Stevens (Patricia), of Groton, Robert Stevens (Barbara), of Lebanon and Patricia Rodgers-Longo (James) of Groton; sister, Margaret Vincent of Schenectady, NY; three grandchildren, Matthew and Jessica Stevens and Ryan Rodgers; and three great-grandchildren, Nygel, Brandon, and Samuel Stevens. She was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Stevens and a brother, John O’Neil. A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, March 8, 2013 at 11:00 am at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church 69 Groton Long Point Rd. Groton. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery Route 27 Mystic. There are no calling hours. Her children would especially like to thank Gerda Abraham and Theresa Seals both of Mystic for their longtime friendship they had with their mother. Memorial donations may be made to the church.
